Disability
What is a disability?
"Disability is a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person's ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities"
(DDA 1995 Part 1 para. 1.1.)
Some children with a disability may also have special educational needs.
Disability Equality
At King's Park Primary, we actively seek to:
promote equality of opportunity between disabled people and others
eliminate discrimination
promote positive attitudes
encourage participation by all
take steps to take account of disabled people's impairments
What do we do at King's Park to ensure that all members of our community are fully included?
Ensure that the building is accessible and safe:
All areas are accessible to children and adults who use a wheelchair or who are not fully mobile through the use of a lift and ramps.
We have an accessible toilet with a shower facility.
Fire evacuation plans are in place to ensure safety for wheelchair users.
Work with families and outside agencies to provide learning aids as required by individual children. Examples include:
Sloping desks.
Adapted chairs that provide physical support.
Radio aid + Hearing aid
Develop our rights respecting ethos by working with our community to develop mutual respect and an appreciation of individual talents.
