In Year 5 we have experienced many exciting and challenging projects through which we have extended our learning across all curriculum areas. We began the year with a P.S.H.E. project, called 'The Global Citizen' inwhich we learnt about our place in the world, became more aware of Global issues and recognised our responsibilities for looking after the world. We examined the features of report writing and produced a non-chronological text about ourselves.
Our next project was entitled 'Oh, What A State We Are In' and was science based. Doctor Zimmerman visited our school to teach us about the properties of materials and how materials can be changed. He challenged us to complete a science magazine about materials to replace the one missing from his set. We carried out many exciting experiments and understood about materials before producing high quality magazines to share our knowledge.
After half term we completed a Literacy based project about traditional tales called 'Run, Run, as Fast as You Can' inwhich we researched Robin Hood and the stories which surround him. We then wrote our own tales using the features of good traditional tales. We presented our stories as pop-up books.
In January, the Year 5 project was a mixture of science and Literacy and entitled 'Could It Be Magic?' We found out about the forces which act upon objects, including magnetism, and we created our own magic tricks which we could explain using our understanding of what we had learnt. We began our topic with a drama day about based on the Harry Potter novels and we went on to produce a book of short stories about Harry Potter and his friends.
